Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer requested a meeting with President Donald Trump, “any time, any place,” to discuss ending the government shutdown. Senator Schumer’s party voted down the continuing resolution passed by the House for the twelfth time on Wednesday.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said, “We have negotiated. I don’t know what there is to negotiate. This is about opening up the government. We have offered them several off-ramps.”

Senator Thune called the requirements “totally untenable” that the opposition insists must be included. He explained, “I mean, they want $1.5 trillion in new spending. They want free healthcare for people who are noncitizens in this country. That is just a flat nonstarter. It doesn’t pass the Senate. It won’t pass the House. It won’t be signed into law by the president.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senators Thune and Schumer as they evaluate the legislation to reopen the government.
  • For President Trump to be led by God as he implements his agenda and makes economic decisions.
  • For the Lord’s plans and purposes to be fulfilled in the United States.
